Hazardous waste storage

The hazardous waste storage area

Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) and hazardous waste from small businesses may be delivered to the permanent drop-off facility at the SCISWA Landfill or the Poweshiek Transfer Station on Wednesdays by appointment only.  HHM is accepted free of charge from residents of Lucas, Marion, Monroe and Poweshiek counties.

This seasonal program will close October 28, 2020. Call today to set an appointment for Wednesday during the hours of 7:30am – 3:00 pm:

SCISWA Landfill, 1736 Hwy T-17 in Tracy, Iowa;  641-828-8545.

or SCISWA Transfer Station, 1163 US 6 in Malcom, Iowa; 641-528-2801.

HHM drop-off locations re-open April 7, 2020.  HHM can be stored upright  in a plastic lined box,  any leaking chemicals or paints should be placed in a separate plastic bucket or container to avoid a possible chemical reaction.

Hazardous waste from very small quantity generators (i.e., small businesses with less than 220 pounds per month) can also use the permanent drop-off facilities with some restrictions. Go to the small business services page for more information
