To celebrate Earth Day, SCISWA is offering Free Rain Barrels to residents in our service area This program encourages water conservation by collecting and reusing rainwater.
Rain Barrels help reduce stormwater runoff, protect local waterways, and provide a free source of water for gardens, landscaping, and outdoor use. Residents of Marion, Lucas, Monroe, and Poweshiek counties are eligible to request a rain barrel.
Participants may receive a rain barrel through two options
- Register and attend a rain barrel workshop to learn how rain barrels work and how they benefit your home and the environment. Participants will receive their free rain barrel at the workshop
- Register for a pickup location to receive a free rain barrel.
Rain Barrels are available while supplies last, and registration is required.

The SCISWA Rain Barrel Program is a part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. The landfill participates in the Environmental Management System (EMS) program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. As Part of this program, we set measurable environmental objectives to improve sustainability and reduce our impact on natural resources. Promoting the use of rain barrels in our communities is one way to work towards those goals. By installing a rain barrel, residents can play a small but important role in protecting water quality, conserving resources, and supporting a healthier environment.
