WOW! Residents of Marion, Lucas, Monroe, and Poweshiek responded quickly to the rain barrels and all the rain barrels have been reserved.  To celebrate Earth Day, This program encourages water conservation by collecting and reusing rainwater.

Rain Barrels help reduce stormwater runoff, protect local waterways, and provide a free source of water for gardens, landscaping, and outdoor use. Residents of Marion, Lucas, Monroe, and Poweshiek counties are eligible to request a rain barrel.

Participants were able to receive a rain barrel through two options

  • Register and attend a rain barrel workshop to learn how rain barrels work and how they benefit your home and the environment. Participants will receive their free rain barrel at the workshop
  • Register for a pickup location to receive a free rain barrel.

Join us in celebrating Earth Day throughout the month of April. And take a simple step towards conserving water.

The SCISWA Rain Barrel Program is a part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. The landfill participates in the Environmental Management System (EMS) program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. As Part of this program, we set measurable environmental objectives to improve sustainability and reduce our impact on natural resources. Promoting the use of rain barrels in our communities is one way to work towards those goals. By installing a rain barrel, residents can play a small but important role in protecting water quality, conserving resources, and supporting a healthier environment.

The post Full-Time Opening for Operator/Driver first appeared on SCISWA.]]> SCISWA has an opening for a full-time Operator/Driver at the Poweshiek Transfer Station in Malcom, Iowa.  Duties to include: transporting waste to SCISWA Landfill in Tracy via semi, loading transport trailers, overseeing customer unloading, and working as part of a 4-person team to maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds. Previous semi driving, equipment handling and solid waste experience preferred.  Class A CDL required, tanker endorsement a plus. Competitive salary ($33.55 at full rate of pay July 1) and benefits including IPERS retirement, health and dental insurance etc.

The post Glass Recycling now available at our locations first appeared on SCISWA.]]> Recycle your glass bottles and jars at the SCISWA landfill and transfer station-just look for the purple bin!  SCISWA has partnered with Ripple Glass of Kansas City Missouri to provide glass recycling to our service area.   We accept all types and colors of glass jars or bottles for recycling, just dump them into the purple bin (no boxes or bags please).  Flat glass (mirrors or window glass) is not accepted for recycling along with porcelain, ceramics, dishware or china.  Large volume glass recycling is also available to communities or businesses-contact us to make arrangements.   Accepted items list
