WOW! Residents of Marion, Lucas, Monroe, and Poweshiek responded quickly to the rain barrels and all the rain barrels have been reserved.  To celebrate Earth Day, This program encourages water conservation by collecting and reusing rainwater.

Rain Barrels help reduce stormwater runoff, protect local waterways, and provide a free source of water for gardens, landscaping, and outdoor use. Residents of Marion, Lucas, Monroe, and Poweshiek counties are eligible to request a rain barrel.

Participants were able to receive a rain barrel through two options

• Register and attend a rain barrel workshop to learn how rain barrels work and how they benefit your home and the environment. Participants will receive their free rain barrel at the workshop
• Register for a pickup location to receive a free rain barrel.

The SCISWA Rain Barrel Program is a part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. The landfill participates in the Environmental Management System (EMS) program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. As Part of this program, we set measurable environmental objectives to improve sustainability and reduce our impact on natural resources. Promoting the use of rain barrels in our communities is one way to work towards those goals. By installing a rain barrel, residents can play a small but important role in protecting water quality, conserving resources, and supporting a healthier environment. 

SCISWA Glass Recycling Flyer

Elementary students in third through fifth grades from Lucas, Marion, Monroe and Poweshiek counties participated in the annual SCISWA Poster Contest.  Students were asked to create a poster illustrating the types of glass now accepted at SCISWA locations for recycling.  Twenty-five posters were selected by the SCISWA Environmental Core Team to be printed in our 2026 Calendar.

Notice is hereby given that the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency will receive sealed proposals for the purchase of one transfer trailer meeting the requirements set forth in this document. 

Proposals shall be submitted on the forms provided by the Agency as part of this RFP. All proposals shall be placed in a sealed envelope clearly identified as “Transfer Trailer Proposal.”

FAXED BIDS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Proposals received by the deadline shall be opened and evaluated by staff, who will present a recommendation during the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency scheduled for 9 a.m., December 8, 2021.  The Board may choose to act upon the recommendation during that meeting or delay action until such later time and place as may be identified.

The Agency wishes to take delivery of the Transfer Trailers at the earliest practical date after July 1, 2022. As such, guaranteed date of delivery to the Agency’s Poweshiek Transfer Station shall be a criterion used in selecting the successful Proposer.
